Prokaryotic Cytoskeleton Structure Imaging Services

The cytoskeleton controls the morphological and dynamic characteristics of eukaryotic cells and plays an important role in maintaining cellular integrity. CD BioSciences use prokaryotic cytoskeleton structure imaging, labeling and detection research tools and technical resources to save you more time for research and new discoveries. Design and optimize your protocols for high-quality experimental data using powerful assay kits and imaging systems.

Major Types of Cytoskeleton Proteins

In the 1980s, there was a consensus that cytoskeletal elements were unique to eukaryotes and that nothing associated with microtubule or actin existed in bacteria or archaea. This consensus was overturned in the 1990s when a series of discoveries showed that prokaryotes do have homologues of microtubule and actin and that they are assembled into cytoskeletal filaments. It is now generally accepted that eukaryotic microtubule and actin filaments originate from these prokaryotic homologues.

Types Examples Typical functions
Tubulin Homologues FtsZ, TubZ, PhuZ Cell division, DNA partitioning, intracellular organization.
Actin Homologues MreB, ParM, MamK Cell-shape generation, DNA partitioning, intracellular organization, cell motility.
CCRPsb Intermediate-filament-liked: crescentin, FilP, Spy; other coiled-coil proteins: DivIvA, CrvA/B, CcfM, AglZ Cell-shape generation, subcellular organization, cell motility.
Bactofilinsb BacA, BacE, BacF, CcmA Cell-shape generation, subcellular organization, cell motility.
