Centrosomal Gene Engineering Service in Drosophila
InquiryDrosophila is one of the most representative model animals for studying centrosome assembly. CD BioSciences offers high-quality and professional gene editing services of centrosomal genes in Drosophila. With advanced technology, equipment and experienced scientists, we have assisted our global customers in the field of centrosome research.
Introduction into Drosophila Centrosome
Drosophila are also called small fruit flies, pomace flies, vinegar flies, or wine flies. One species of Drosophila in particular, D. melanogaster, has been widely used in research of genetics and developmental biology, due to its relatively short life cycle and simple living condition. Moreover, approximately 60% of the fruit fly genes are orthologs to mammals, which makes it a valuable model organism for studying diseases.
Three classes of genes are involved in the maintenance of centrosome structure and function. First, gene encoding proteins of the centrosomal core structure, the centriole, such as Ana1, Ana2, Asl, Bld10, Sas-4, Sas-6 and Spd-2. Second, gene encoding mRNAs and proteins that compose the pericentriolar material (PCM), such as Cnn, Grip84, Grip91 and γ-tubulin. Third, genes encoding factors that regulate PCM recruitment at the interphase-mitosis transition, such as cell cycle kinases Polo, Cdc2/Cdc2c, kinases SAK, Grp, Mei41 and AuroraA. In Drosophila, the pericentriolar material (PCM) assembles on an underlying 'scaffold'.
CRISPR/Cas9 for Gene Editing
CRISPR genome engineering allows the introduction of targeted genome alterations with unprecedented ease and precision. This system uses a small RNA molecule called a guide RNA (gRNA) that complexes with Cas9 nuclease and guides it to a specific target site in the genome using sequence homology where Cas9 induces a double-stranded DNA break (DSB).
